Which Path Fits The Launch

Stop debating. The matrix decides.

A founder with a 60-day launch deadline cannot afford to start an OEM pattern cycle. A founder with a signature silhouette cannot afford to ship someone else's pattern. The matrix below is the same one we walk every first-call brief through — five dimensions, two paths, one obvious answer per buyer.

Dimension OEM Path ODM Path (this page)
Sample lead time 14–21 days (pattern + sew + fit revisions) 7–10 days (library pattern + your label)
Pilot MOQ 100 pcs / SKU (pattern amortization) 50 pcs / SKU (library pattern paid down)
Bulk lead time 45–55 working days from PO 18–25 working days from PO
Customization depth Cut, fit, fabric, every trim — your call Colour, label, hangtag, packaging, fabric upgrade — cut locked
IP ownership Pattern is yours (work-for-hire clause optional) Library pattern stays ours; your label is yours
Sample fee $80–150 charged, refunded above 300 pcs $25–45 charged, refunded above 150 pcs

If three rows in the right column matched what you actually need, the ODM path is the cheaper way to launch. If two or more rows in the left column matched, see /oem-service/ — the math flips.

How The Library Works

Four seasonal drops a year. Always something within 30 days of fresh.

The library is not a static catalog. It refreshes on a 90-day rhythm so the brands buying from it never ship last year's silhouette. Access is gated — verified buyers only — because the lookbook contains tech pack snippets and fit-tested patterns we'd rather not hand to scrapers.

Lookbook access — three steps, free

Sign mutual NDA via DocuSign. Takes about 5 minutes; we counter-sign the same day.

Receive password-protected lookbook — PDF plus a private Notion link that mirrors live stock and next-drop timing.

Style codes flag stock state: green for "available now," amber for "next drop," red for "discontinued." No guessing on inventory.

Fabric grades behind every library style come from the same swatch wall as /oem-service/ — no separate ODM fabric tier, no quality compromise to hit the price.

The Edit Window

Five things you can move. Three things you cannot.

The math behind ODM speed is honest: we keep the pattern fixed and you get a discount on time. The trade-off only hurts brands with a signature cut — and those brands already belong on the OEM page. For everyone else, here is the exact edit window, written before you ask.

Adjustable

  • Colour swap Any Pantone match across stock fabric grades. Minimum 50 pcs per colour; multi-colour POs combine to hit MOQ.
  • Brand label Woven, silicone, heat-transfer, or leather. Sewn-in or hang. We source the label maker or stitch yours.
  • Hangtag + polybag Your artwork, our printer. FBA-suffocation warning, FNSKU, and barcode formats handled in-house.
  • Fabric upgrade Bump standard nylon-spandex to recycled poly or modal. Adds 12–18% to unit cost; no MOQ surcharge.
  • Decoration overlay Sublimation logo, screen print, embroidery, silicone heat-transfer. Mix-and-match per garment without retooling.

Locked

  • Pattern / cut Rise, inseam, neckline, strap geometry are fixed at library spec. Pattern modifications push the order onto the OEM track — not "no," just "wrong service."
  • Tech-pack ownership The library pattern stays ours; you license your label onto it. If you need pattern IP, the OEM agreement adds a work-for-hire clause.
  • Construction stitch map Flatlock, coverstitch, bar-tack placements are the library default. Bonded seams, laser-cut perforations, signature stitch geometry are OEM jobs.

Need to move something in the locked column? Step over to /oem-service/ — different math, longer clock, but the cut becomes yours.

The Clock, Not Marketed

From library pick to dock, day by day.

Every promise on this page is built on the same four-stage clock. No "best case" caveats buried in fine print — the numbers below are the median run, drawn from 2024 ODM jobs ranging 50 to 2,400 pcs.

Day 0–3

Style lock + spec sheet

  • You email the shortlist (3–5 styles).
  • We confirm fabric availability and colour stock.
  • Quote returned within 1 business day — see sample policy.

Day 4–12

Sample run (7–10 working days)

  • Library pattern pulled, your label sewn, your colour cut.
  • DHL out on Day 12 typical, tracking shared same hour.

Day 13–20

Sample approval window

  • Your fit team has 7 days to confirm or revise.
  • Revisions add 5–7 days; second sample no extra fee.

Day 21–46

Bulk production (18–25 days)

  • 50% deposit triggers fabric cutting on Day 21.
  • QC at AQL 2.5, packed FBA-ready, balance due before dispatch.

The OEM equivalent of this clock is 45–55 production days plus 14–21 sample days — roughly double. The single delta is pattern work; the library pattern is already paid down. The speed is not a marketing claim, it is the absence of a step.

The Honest Filter

ODM is right when. OEM is right when.

A founder choosing the wrong service path loses six weeks. We'd rather lose the inquiry than ship the wrong process. The two columns below are the filter we run on every new brief — if the right-hand column lights up twice, the conversation goes to the OEM team and the timeline grows by six weeks. Better to know now.

Pick ODM

When speed beats pattern ownership.

  • Testing a new market — capsule launch under 800 units, want sub-30-day cash cycle.
  • Refreshing a hero category — leggings or bras already proven, need the next colourway live by Q-end.
  • Drop-cadence brand — running 4–6 collections a year, treating each as a 60-day sprint.
  • First seasonal restock — proved demand last quarter, no pattern changes warranted.

Pick OEM

When the cut is the product.

  • Signature silhouette — the fit is the differentiator; must own the pattern.
  • Proprietary IP — utility pattern, registered design, or contract clause requires work-for-hire.
  • Tall, petite, or plus-only grading — library defaults to standard XS–3XL; specialty grading is OEM territory.
  • Construction stunt — bonded seams, laser-cut perforations, anything off the standard flatlock map.

Still ambiguous? Send the brief anyway — first reply will say which lane and why, never both at once. The other path lives on /oem-service/; the third (blank stock) lives on /wholesale-yoga-apparel/.

The Cost Delta, Roughly

ODM lands 18–25% lower than OEM on the same fabric and MOQ.

Specific unit prices live behind the quote — fabric grade, colour count, decoration, and PO size all move the number. The delta below is the structural saving, not the headline.

18–25%lower

Versus equivalent OEM unit cost at matched fabric grade, matched colour count, matched PO size. The delta is mechanical, not promotional.

  • Pattern amortization removed — library pattern was paid down across earlier runs; your PO only pays material, sew, decoration, and overhead.
  • Sample fee halved — $25–45 ODM versus $80–150 OEM, refunded above 150 pcs instead of 300.
  • 50-pc pilot vs 100-pc pilot — half the inventory exposure on first pass; reorder unlocks the next tier.
